We are all familiar with New Year's resolutions: The start of a new year gives us the opportunity to set intentions and strive for new goals and changes. However, these changes are best realised when we consciously bring the old year to a close before a new one begins. That is why in these last weeks of the year, we invite you to look back on what has been. So that when the time comes, you can welcome the new year full of vigour and anticipation...

Looking back

Every year is an adventure, because we don't know what to expect beforehand. We can only hope that the beautiful and exciting experiences will outweigh the challenging ones. As we approach the end of the year, it gives us the opportunity to look back before we look forward to the year ahead. This time of year invites us to reflect on what we want to leave behind and what we want to take with us into the new year. This process is particularly powerful when we write down these reflections - in a journal, for example. It helps us to say goodbye to the current year in a conscious and mindful way. At the same time, it can help us to make the most of the last few days and weeks as we gain more clarity.

These questions are great for end-of-year journaling:

  • What am I grateful for this year?
  • What are the best things that have happened to me?
  • What challenges have I overcome?
  • What important insights have I gained this year?
  • What am I particularly proud of?
  • In which areas of my life am I content and fulfilled? In which areas do I wish for change?
  • What do I want to leave behind or let go of this year?

"Life is about savouring the beautiful experiences to the full and learning from the challenges."

Why should someone take time for these reflections?

Ultimately, life is about savouring the beautiful experiences to the full and learning from the challenges. This is how we develop on a personal level and gain valuable new insights and life experience. Journaling helps us with precisely this inner process, in which we look back and recognise what we have learned in difficult moments and situations. It also allows us to recall all the good things that have happened and that we were able to enjoy this year. This in turn sparks gratitude, joy and fulfilment within us - and these are perhaps the best feelings we could carry from one year to the next...
