Which vitamins does the skin need?

The recipe for beautiful skin? A healthy, balanced diet, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, using the right skin care products.... We've kind of heard it all before. These points are also absolutely essential, but the truth is: sometimes we have to help out with nutritional supplements so that our body and our skin are optimally nourished and can show themselves from their most beautiful side.

But which nutrients does our skin actually need? Sometimes there is a lot of confusion about which additional supplements should be included in the diet. That's why we've put together a simple, compact list to make sure you have all the beauty knowledge you need for great skin.

Vitamins, minerals and micronutrients for beautiful, healthy skin:

Vitamin A

  • important for various mechanisms in the cells such as cell repair and renewal

Vitamin C

  • boosts collagen production and collagen is crucial for firm, tight skin

Vitamin D

  • hydration, protection, regeneration, cell renewal, healing and mitigation of inflammatory processes - vitamin D is jointly responsible for all of these factors.

Vitamin E

  • protects the skin from free radicals and thus counteracts premature skin ageing, also moisturises the skin

Vitamin K

  • plays an important role in blood circulation and thus in skin healing processes, inflammations or irritations and eczema.

Zinc

  • helps in the formation of collagen, in the regeneration of the skin and improves the skin's appearance in the case of acne or impurities

Biotin

  • also known as the "beauty vitamin", makes the skin look healthy and plump because, among other things, it supplies it with important lipids and influences the level of hydration

Omega-3

  • moisturises, stimulates cell renewal and thus provides a real glow

Glutathion

  • effectively counteracts skin ageing - because it protects the skin from environmental influences, free radicals and their negative consequences

Manganese

  • a trace element that supplies enzymes involved in collagen production, which in turn is essential for young-looking skin

Probiotica

  • are not vitamins, but bacterial cultures that support gut health; and a healthy gut ensures improved absorption of all nutrients that are important for the skin

Important to know when it comes to food supplements

Food supplements are - as the term already suggests - only intended to supplement the diet. They are therefore no substitute for a healthy, balanced diet. Nutrition is not only the foundation for good, holistic health, but also the basis for great skin. The intake of vitamins and minerals is therefore only intended to provide additional support for the body, but is not suitable as a substitute for a nutrient-rich diet.

Ideal for the skin: a combination of a healthy diet and the right nutritional supplements.

In addition, the intake of food supplements is particularly important if the body is already lacking certain nutrients. It is best to have a blood test done and discuss with a doctor which dietary supplements make sense and which do not. An oversupply of certain nutrients can also be risky and have negative consequences!

Last but not least, a tip for all those who like things to be uncomplicated: Food supplements that already combine different vitamins, minerals and trace elements are practical. This way you don't have to take five different pills, which is inconvenient and annoying. Such combination supplements are also available specifically for the skin - with various vitamins, trace elements and minerals that make the skin happy.
