Cannes - The Better World Forum Gala

The Better World Fund takes part at the Cannes Film Festival for the fifth year in a row with a full day event.

As the Cannes Film Festival is taking action this year to protect the planet, the Better World Fund, which is a continuously growing community of leading thinkers and action takers who share a mission for positive environmental, economic and social change,  will be honoring the Gold industry, in such a way promoting “Responsible Mining”. Thus, ‘Ethical Gold’ will be the theme of this year’s event.

In international cinema, gold can be found everywhere. From some of the most beautiful actresses on the sets all the way to the red carpets. Unfortunately, it is often being extracted in places and under conditions that are denounced by the OECD and numerous international NGOs.

At this year’s Festival, The Better World Endowment Fund will be announcing and awarding a country and a film that supports the great fight for the improvement of and equity in the Gold Mining industry.

A group of selected key speakers will be participating in a discussion about environmental changes and humanitarian issues. Each one will be bringing their own unique stance and point of view on the matters.

A gala cocktail and a dinner reception will be taking place as a continuation of the event to honor Barry Alexander Brown and Spike Lee. Two films will receive the filmfestivals.com ‘Movie that Matter Award’: "The Sound of Us" by Chris Gero and "Enough! Lebanon's Darkest Hour" by Daizy Gedeon.

This year, the Better World Endowment Fund will support the children of Lebanon. Currently, children and adolescents face great risks and thus the present-day situation truly raises protection concerns. A school program is to be financially supported through the René Mouawad Foundation, which was originally established in 2000 for Education and Protection.
