How To Grow Healthy And Long Hair
Beautiful long hair is a dream for many people. But how do you achieve it? A healthy lifestyle, the right care and a little patience are the key.
Say goodbye to brittle, stubborn hair. A Rapunzel-like mane is not so hard to achieve if you follow a few tips.
Diet & Nutrition
A balanced diet is the foundation for healthy hair growth. Adequate vitamins and minerals are essential for healthy hair roots and scalp. Proteins are essential for the formation of keratin, the main component of hair. Foods such as eggs, fish, nuts, fruit and vegetables are rich in the necessary nutrients and help to make hair strong and resilient.
Scalp massage
A regular scalp massage increases blood circulation and stimulates the hair follicles, which in turn stimulates growth. Simply add a few drops of essential oil, such as rosemary oil, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and circulation-enhancing properties. Massage the oil into the scalp at the same time. Leave on for a few hours or overnight before washing out.
Use the right shampoo
The right shampoo and conditioner are also essential for healthy, long hair. You should always choose products that are free of harmful chemicals such as sulfates and parabens, and contain natural ingredients instead. The hair should be cleaned thoroughly but gently. Always follow with a conditioner to moisturise and detangle.
Don't wash your hair too often
Washing your hair too often damages it and dries it out. This is because it loses its natural protective film and becomes brittle. Two or three times a week is ideal. If you tend to have oily hair and need to wash more often, use a mild shampoo.
Be careful when styling
Heat and mechanical damage can stress your hair and cause it to break. Avoid excessive styling with hot tools such as flat irons and curling tongs, and always use heat protection. If possible, let your hair dry naturally. Avoid using hair ties or clips that are too tight to prevent breakage.
Gently comb wet hair
Wet hair is very delicate. This is because the structure is swollen by the moisture and is particularly susceptible to damage. The cuticle layer, which normally holds the hair in place when dry, is slightly open when wet. Therefore, detangling should only be done with fingers or a wide toothed comb. The entire hair can only be brushed when dry.
Trim ends regularly
Trimming your ends regularly is an important step in keeping your hair healthy and preventing split ends. It won't make your hair grow faster, but it will look healthier, fuller and shinier. Trimming one centimetre off the ends every eight to ten weeks is enough.
Drink enough water
Staying hydrated is as important for hair growth as it is for general health. Drinking enough water every day will keep your hair hydrated and prevent it from becoming brittle and dry.
