Barbie is Back! Feelings of nostalgia awaken in Margot Robbie's wardrobe
Inspired by the 50s, Margot Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal take thematic dressing to a whole new level, with the actress appearing as a living Barbie doll in slip-on mules, mini skirts, and a whole lot of pink.
The press tour kicked off in Sydney. From tailored Versace pink suits and dresses to vintage Chanel tweed, Andrew Mukamal collaborated with major fashion houses to create Margot's Barbie-inspired dream wardrobe: The hemlines are short, the silhouettes are body-conscious, and Margot has been heavily involved with white slip-on high heels.
"Barbie is really closely associated with fashion, because how you play with her is mostly about dressing her up," explained the film's costume designer, Jacqueline Durran. "Clothing is her form of expression."
Margot was dressed like the Day-to-Night Barbie from 1985, featuring a pink power suit, a bespoke design from Versace. She combined this with a sparkling phone, a white fedora, and pumps from Manolo Blahnik.
Furthermore, the Barbie actress appeared in a dazzling pink evening outfit. Margot and her stylist Andrew Mukamal were inspired by the original dress and worked closely with Versace to create a crystal-encrusted bodysuit and a fluffy skirt in light pink.
While promoting Barbie in Sydney, Margot Robbie wore a striped bodycon mini dress from Hervé Léger, referencing an original Barbie doll from 1959. Andrew Mukamal paid close attention to the details of this original doll and added a similar pair of peep-toe heels from Manolo Blahnik. Margot also styled her hair in the same high ponytail.
At a photo op in Hollywood, stylist Andrew Mukamal harked back to another original doll outfit by selecting a bright pink, polka-dotted mini dress from Valentino, a yellow handbag, and white high heels from Manolo Blahnik.
Barbie or Cher Horowitz? Here we see Margot in a yellow tweed Chanel suit consisting of a mini skirt and a short jacket, paired with a fluffy white handbag and white mule sandals.
Margot Robbie is taking the world by storm as "Barbie." Expect a multitude of outfits in the movie that pay tribute to Barbie's fashion history.
