Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2023 Collection: A coming-of-age story
Louis Vuitton enlists guest designer Colm Dillane for this year's autumn/winter 2023 collection. The result: artfully playful garments with an important message about the concerns of the future generation.
‘Louis Lifewear’: The Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2023 Men’s Collection
Luxury brand Louis Vuitton made its debut at this year's Fashion Week. After the loss of its creative director Virgil Abloh, the maison brought in a guest designer for the first time for the autumn/winter menswear collection 2023. Colm Dillane, founder of the streetwear brand "KidsSuper", has exceeded expectations as a first time guest designer: Tone-on-tone outfits with modern tailoring, artistic colourful designs and detailed accessories to fall in love with.
The discourse of being a child and becoming an adult has been present in previous Louis Vuitton collections and remains steadfast in this year's designs. Based on the ideology of "growing up", French filmmakers Michel and Olivier Gondry constructed a house on stage where the first stages of a boy's life unfold and pile up to adulthood, with the memories and experiences of the inner child remaining eternally present. Like Virgil Abloh's vision itself, the Autumn/Winter 2023 menswear collection sees itself as a voice for today's young generation. The generation's concerns are also reflected in words on the garments: inscriptions such as "Blurry vision of a bright future" and "Fantastic Imagination?" are the graffiti designs of Colm Dillane himself.

imaginative and futuristic bags
As usual for Louis Vuitton, this year's Autumn/Winter 2023 collection keeps the shape of iconic bags but is being reinterpreted in Colm Dillane's style. The bags are characterised by colourful and fururistic designs: from puffy mini bags in metal or solid leather, to brief cases with the usual LV leather fragments printed with scans of letters from the house's archive and real letters from members of the atelier.
A very special eye-catcher this time was the Freezer Bag - the trompe-l'oeil of a bag inside another bag. This takes its name from the idea of freezing a moving object in time and appears in square shapes in which the three-dimensional details of existing Louis Vuitton bags displayed.
