First Class Comfort in Business Class: Air France adds Luxury to your Flight

Air France offers passengers the opportunity to experience travel in a whole new way and equips its Business Class on long-haul routes with luxury seats that transform into recliners at the touch of a button. This is accompanied by excellent cuisine française and service.

If you ask long-haul passengers, there is one parameter that stands out from all the others: The "hardware" aka "the seat". This is the decisive point for passengers in terms of comfort.

Air France has been equipping its aircraft (Boeing 777-300 AR and Boeing 777-200) with new seats since autumn 2022. In the course of 2023, all Business Class seats in the Air France fleet will then be able to be converted into a completely flat bed. Air France is thus fulfilling the dream of waking up refreshed on the other side of the world.

What the new Air France Business Class seat offers you

At the touch of a button, the seat can be adjusted to all possible positions and, with a width of 70 cm, can also be converted completely flat into an approx. 2-metre-long bed. If you just want to put your feet up while watching a film, this is no problem. A cosy blanket and soft pillows increase the feel-good factor many times over.

And to ensure that this is as peaceful as possible, the privacy of the guest was particularly important to the planners of the new Business Class. A sliding door on the aisle side shields passengers and staff from passing by, giving them a certain feeling of intimacy.

The seat has USB ports (USB-A and USB-C) with which, for example, the smartphone can be charged, as well as a separate compartment with storage space and mirror in which the most important utensils for the flight can be stored. And if that were not enough (space) luxury, a separate, very generous overhead compartment is offered for the long haul. Another comfort point is the access to the aisle, which every Business Class passenger has from their seat.

In the in-flight toiletries bag, the airline offers soft sleeping glasses and socks, a toothbrush, toothpaste as well as Oropax and miniatures of the beauty brand Clarins.

The cabin is decorated in light tones, with the two middle seats separated from the window seats by a wide aisle and a partition. The centre partition of the double seats can be stowed away at the touch of a button for conversation and also provides a shared table (perfect for honeymooners too!).

The in-flight programme has everything from current feature films to guided meditations for a comfortable night's sleep or information about your own flight. Everyone has their own 17.3-inch 4K screen with touchscreen, noise-cancelling headphones, Bluetooth connection and wireless charger are also built into the seat.

All of this is included, except for the Air France CONNECT service Wi-Fi passes, for which you have to pay extra. This can be booked in the Air France app before boarding the flight.

The in-flight menu in Air France Business Class [2023]

As you'd expect from a French airline, Air France really comes up trumps in the in-flight kitchen. Guests are treated (depending on the route) to menus from various Michelin-starred chefs, such as Michel Roth, Régis Marcon, Thierry Marx or Anne-Sophie Pic. After the main course, you will enjoy a delicious selection of - yes, you've already expected it - French fromage. The dishes served include Crottin de Chavignol from the Loire or Fourme d'Ambert. Then you fly a few clouds higher with a fine selection of different French patisserie.

By the way: at check-in, you can already make your personal preferences known and choose vegetarian options, for example.

But that is by far not all ...

Selected wines and champagnes have been chosen by master sommelier Paolo Basso. This is how you enjoy Duval-Leroy champagne on Air France. (Little insight here: Every year, around 750,000 bottles of champagne are served in La Prémiere and Business Class of it on Air France).

When it comes to porcelain and glasses, they don't rely on "off-the-shelf" products either. The renowned French designer Jean-Marie Massaud has designed his own service. The manufacturers also come in blue-white-red: the porcelain tableware was produced by the traditional Guy Degrenne company, which also supplies the Élysée Palace, and the stainless steel cutlery comes from Christofle.

The Air France Business Class Lounges

Air France offers business lounges in the main airports of its worldwide network. Air France's Business Class Lounge in Paris-Charles de Gaulle, for example, is a spacious and extremely modern design that extends over two levels and is located in Terminal 2E. Once at the French airline's "headquarters", the gigantic lounge is fantastically equipped.

With a bar on the upper level, a wide selection of drinks and plenty of seating, including comfortable armchairs and sofas, it's the ideal place to wait for your next flight. There is also a rest area where passengers can relax and power up before continuing on their journey. The lounge has a spacious buffet area with a wide selection of hot food and drinks, snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Separate work areas are equipped with computers and printers as well as Wi-Fi and USB charging stations. This allows passengers to be productive during their waiting time.

Sustainability - not only in the sky

Air France has taken a number of initiatives in recent years to minimise its environmental impact and operate more sustainably.

  • CO2 offsetting: Air France offers passengers the opportunity to offset their CO2 emissions by supporting projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These projects focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
  • Sustainable materials: Air France has started to introduce more sustainable materials in the cabin, including recycled plastics and bio-plastics.
  • Reducing waste: This includes reducing the use of single-use plastic and introducing reusable cups - meaning drinks are served mainly in glasses or china. A return to the days in aviation when flying was celebrated.
  • Fuel efficiency: Air France has a fleet of modern aircraft equipped with more efficient engines. This helps to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.  To this end, passengers can make use of the compensation service, which the airline has been offering since 2008, when booking. Air France itself already offsets 100 per cent of the CO2 emissions of its 500 or so daily domestic flights.
