Dior x Harrods: The Most Luxurious Gingerbread World Has Opened
Christmas is just around the corner! And this is celebrated at the London luxury department stores' Harrods with Maison Dior: "The Fabulous World of Dior". From fashion to beauty, the two stores invite you on a journey through the most chic Winter Wonderland.
As the holiday season approaches, Dior has created The Fabulous World of Dior, a spectacular project illuminating the halls of the legendary Harrods department store. An exceptional event that combines the English spirit's charm with French luxury.
Until January 3, 2023, the facade of the Brompton Road edifice will be adorned with a monumental installation aglow with a play of light radiantly showcasing Dior’s fundamental references as reinterpreted by artist Pietro Ruffo for the Dior cruise 2023 collection.
"Dior and Harrods offer an attraction that draws people from all over the world"
At the heart of this prestigious venue, a thousand fascinating surprises and vibrant decorations await customers, complemented by culinary delights. Two dreamlike pop-ups - an ode to Monsieur Dior's attachment to Christmas and the art of honouring his loved ones - as well as a specially designed café and an immersive exhibition that plays with proportions will enchant.
A celebration of dreams and Dior savoir-faire
A tribute to the end-of-year festive magic, Dior reinvents the 44 traditional Christmas windows of Harrods. For the first time in the history of the department store, each of these iconic displays – from Brompton Road to Hans Crescent, via part of Basil Street – is converted into a small theater of wonder, with scenery made of gingerbread.
The outfits designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri for the Dior cruise 2023 line, as well as the Dior Maison creations inspired by this collection, are given pride of place in a setting that evokes travel, the meeting of worlds and cultures, sublimated by the drawings of Pietro Ruffo.
Experience two exclusive pop-ups
Inside the landmark department store, two novel pop-up boutiques draw their fantastic decor from the most beautiful Christmas fairytales. The first, designed as an authentic gingerbread house representing Monsieur Dior’s Atelier, summons visitors to enter the secret wings of 30 Montaigne, to discover the House and the Art of its creations behind the scenes.
The second boutique, on the other hand, a gift shop, offers everything from the ready-to-wear collection to shoes and kids toys. In homage to the quiet moments of winter, the knitted jumpers are decorated with poetic patterns, as are the household items in the Dior Chez Moi collection, which suggest a new way of living with a soft touch.
At the heart of this extraordinary mise-en-scène, and through the discovery of the two boutiques of the House present in Harrods, Dior invites visitors to experience a unique adventure, thanks to original elaborations expressly made for this event.
Timeless essentials of the feminine universe, the J’Adior pumps are dressed in the Jardin d’Hiver print, which also embellishes silk scarves, shawls, a pajama set from the Dior Chez Moi line, or the Lady Dior. Like an ode to travel and the plurality of cultures, the Rêve d’Infini motif imagined by Pietro Ruffo blossoms on the Dior Book Tote, D-Way mules and silk twill scarves, while the graphic cannage is drawn on iridescent phone pouches and cases.
Precious surprises, the new creations of Victoire de Castellane for La Rose Dior collection, as a homage to the queen of flowers, will also be unveiled for the first time.
For this festive alliance, Kim Jones presents a brand new collection. In the exclusive area dedicated to Dior men's lines, a double-breasted suit with button placket, the artistic director's iconic cut, is sublimated in the emblematic green of the British department stores'. In a playful yet refined detail, the house revisits the historic plaque at the entrance to the London building and transforms it into a highly desirable "Christian Dior Couture" patch. It is embroidered on T-shirts, sweatshirts and long-sleeved jumpers and is also found on items from the house's leather goods collection. Like the Lingot 50 duffle bag, the Hit the Road backpack and the B27 low sneakers.
Le Café Dior at Harrods
In a nod to Monsieur Dior's love of good food, the House of Dior at Harrods is opening a new and unusual place to tantalise the palate.
A café entirely decorated with gingerbread, from the façade to the smallest detail, completely immerses you in a new world. The medallion chairs are dressed in Dior's iconic Toile de Jouy, the pattern of which can also be seen on the wooden tables, while the lines of the house's signature fluting adorn the crockery, which glows in delicate shades of gold.
In a fairy tale setting, you can discover the great classics of French cuisine and culinary specialties with a twist of British influence, such as Cornish crab with green apple, Atlantic lobster Thermidor and its yuzu vinaigrette, or a roasted chestnut velouté with winter chanterelles - all conceptualized and created by Harrods brigade of masterful chefs. Those with a sweet tooth will be tempted to taste a selection of gourmet creations – such as tarte tatin or pear baba – and pastries reinventing traditional Christmas desserts.
As a final surprise, the House has created a remarkable collection of irresistible gingerbread biscuits for Café Dior at Harrods, reinterpreting Dior’s symbols: the Bar jacket, the Dior Book Tote, the Dior Saddle Bag and Lady Dior bags, the compass rose, the J’adore perfume, the Oblique suit, the signature CD Diamond motif and even the 30 Montaigne plaque. Dior collector’s treats with a couture spirit available exclusively at Harrods, to be given as a gift, or to take home. A little piece of dreams come true.
