The word "empowerment" has become an essential part of our modern lexicon. But when we talk about female empowerment, it’s worth pausing to ask: What does it truly mean? It goes beyond buzzwords or trendy slogans on T-shirts. Empowerment is about self-actualization, building confidence, and breaking through both societal and personal barriers.

Our cover star, Waris Dirie, embodies this theme in a profound way. As a former supermodel, activist, and author, she has fought tirelessly for women’s rights and raised awareness about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) — an issue that often remains shrouded in silence. Her unwavering commitment shows that empowerment begins with the courage to confront injustice and actively drive change.

Empowerment comes in many forms. It’s about shattering glass ceilings in boardrooms, challenging stereotypes in everyday life, and encouraging women to believe in their own capabilities. It’s also evident in the fashion world: over the past decades, the industry has evolved from traditional beauty standards and gender norms to embracing diversity, inclusion, and self-expression. This issue is dedicated to the power that emerges when women support one another and explores how feminism today is not just a social movement but also a cultural force. From iconic moments in fashion history to visionary voices of the present, we highlight how empowerment shapes the evolution of fashion and why true strength lies in diversity.

The truth is: empowerment isn’t a trend you can wear. It’s an attitude. An attitude that carries responsibility — toward oneself, the community, and those whose voices often go unheard. This issue is an invitation: let’s work together to create a fairer and more inclusive world. Waris Dirie reminds us that change starts with each of us — and that our strongest weapon is always our own voice.
