ETRO's latest men's collection for autumn winter 2023
ETROMATTERS. It is Etro's first menswear collection under the creative direction of Marco De Vincenzo. The collection invokes the origins of the brand and the personal history of the fashion designer.
Milan. It is Sunday, January 15th. Menswear Fashion Week is in full swing. As always, everyone is eagerly awaiting which trends will be set and which looks will be presented by the world's major fashion houses. But the excitement is even bigger when there is a new creative director at work, as in the case of Etro. It is Marco De Vincenzo's first menswear collection for the Italian fashion house. In this article we take a look at the creative essence of the collection.
Back to the roots
There would be no fashion without fabrics - and that is exactly where Etro's story began. The well-known brand was originally founded as a textile company and can therefore prove great experience and expertise in fabric development. It is precisely this aspect of the brand's identity and history that De Vincenzo pays tribute to with his first collection. Whether tartan or jacquard, the collection focuses on patterned woven fabrics.
Fabrics and patterns telling stories
But the collection not only tells of the fashion house's past, it also features influences from the creative director's own history. For example, the jacquard pattern of some woollen coats and jackets is reminiscent of a jacquard velvet blanket from his childhood. The source of inspiration was not only the look of the blanket, but also the soothing, calming effect he associates with it in his memory. The cosiness we often connect with our private homes goes hand in hand here with the version of ourselves we present to the public. Boundaries disappear, furniture fabrics suddenly become modern garments, shirts resemble curtains or tablecloths...private and public merge into a symbiosis and something new emerges.
Motifs and textures create a delight for the senses
Both our eyes and our hands can enjoy this collection. Whether it's fruits, patterns or floral appliqués, the collection appeals equally to the senses of sight and touch, creating a delight for the senses.
