Barbara Palatin-Doyle, the founder of Studio Palatin, specializes in handcrafted sculptural lights in limited editions, in particular the design of table lamps and candlesticks

As an artist, she combines functionality with art as well as contemporary design with materials and techniques that have been handed down from the exquisite craftsmanship of the 17th and 18th centuries. Inspired by the splendid craftsmanship of the luxury objects of past centuries, she creates functional, contemporary light art and uses her favorite materials such as porcelain, silver, gold, glass, handmade Japanese paper (Hosho) and bronze.

The collections are mainly limited editions; every single piece is handmade and unique.

Charter Collection:

The inspiration for the two Charta Alba table lamps and the Charta candlestick came from a series of sculptures made from crumpled wrapping paper from an Amazon parcel. The sculptures were created from a single piece of paper, which the artist wrapped around a vertical axis to create the individual shapes. The folds of the paper formed an interesting interplay of light and shadow. The impulse was to create something new out of disposable materials. The aim was to surprise people with a visual and material transformation of the simple packaging paper into a solid, high-quality material. Porcelain emerged as the perfect medium for the execution. It was nicknamed "white gold" as early as the 18th century. Charta Alba means "white paper" - a play on the color of the white porcelain and the brown paper of the original form.

Surculus Collection - The shoot, branch, scion:

This collection found its inspiration in nature. The surculus, an abstract bronze sculpture, stretches like a growing branch towards the illuminated lampshade and ends with a polished bronze end piece. A delicate new growth and the rejuvenation of the old are symbolized. The folds of the paper screen reflect the grooves in the bronze base and catch the light like delicate petals. The artist modeled 5 different end pieces that give each lamp a different personality.

The Surculus table lamp combines traditional bronze work with new technology. Its shape and use pair the traditional candlestick with technology and make the LED lamp portable, cordless and rechargeable.

Arbor Collection:

Barbara Palatin-Doyle's closeness to nature stems from the Arbor collection. Each candlestick is a miniature sculpture, which is reminiscent of a forest or a group of trees. The patinated and hand-polished surfaces, inspired by grooves in the tree bark, are highlighted by the reflection of the candlelight.
Thanks to its timeless, abstract shape and the use of high-quality materials and craftsmanship, the Arbor Set fits in with modern, contemporary and traditional interior settings.

In Vienna, the works of art are exclusively available from J. & L. Lobmeyr, a Viennese glass and chandelier manufacturer. The traditional family company was once K&K purveyor to the court and already adorned the Habsburg salons with handcrafted crystal chandeliers and glasses of the highest quality.
