H&M HOME: The first Design Lab collection - or the answer to "Why minimalism?"

H&M shows why minimalism sharpens the senses and how it can help us focus on the essentials with its first Design Lab collection. This interesting experiment was designed by H&M's design team.

From 17 October 2022, the Design Lab collection will be available in selected stores with an H&M Home department and on hm.com/home. The collection is made up of limited-edition collectibles developed to the highest standards of design and quality.

The Design Lab collection's distinctive aesthetic is revealed in versatile contrasts: abstract shapes meet clean lines and invite a playful approach to the visual qualities of soft and solid textures. The H&M HOME design team has experimented with complementary materials and shapes and considered them in the context of human perception.

H&M Home's Design Lab result is a combination of hard materials and soft shapes, completed by the strength of large volume.

The concept and idea of the Design Lab collection originally started as a study and experiment with shapes and volumes. It was the design process that led to the special collection for H&M HOME, which combines innovation, design and quality, as Evelina Kravaev-Söderberg, Head of Design and Creative at H&M HOME, explains.

If the Design Lab collection is well received by customers, a sequel is being considered.

The Design Lab collection comprises a total of eleven interior collectibles. Three larger and smaller sculptural bowl vases made of glass are characterised by multifunctional design. They can be used as vases as well as bowls by simply turning them upside down. They are available in three colours: ink black, small blue and transparent glass.

The collection is complemented by a modular statement lamp that adds a playful touch to any home as a functional light sculpture. Inspired by architectural shapes, the modelled ceiling combines complementary compositions in a modern design. The collection is rounded off by a black lounge chair that captivates as a stylish pièce de résistance, crafted from hard steel and soft, airy upholstery.

"Design Lab, from H&M HOME's perspective, reflects the era we live in - where things can look similar and feel very different. It reminds us to question what we observe and be open to new, refreshing combinations. This new collection invites H&M HOME customers to experience a new side of H&M HOME, with limited edition interior pieces that we see as true collectors' items for the future," says Erica Christofferson, Concept Designer at H&M HOME.
