Versace, Gucci and Chanel: Fashion films you should have seen
The new "House of Gucci" trailer is finally out, but we still have to be patient until we can watch the - already Oscar-worthy - film with pop icon Lady Gaga and Hollywood actors Adam Driver, Jared Leto and Al Pacino in the cinema. But don't worry: there are already enough fashion films. Here are alternative suggestions that you can watch to shorten the wait for the Gucci flick.
We have already reported on what we know about the new film. You can find out more about the new House Of Gucci film here.
1. The Assassination of Gianni Versace
5 July 1997 - this day has probably remained in the memory of just about every fashion fan to this day. The day on which one of the greatest fashion designers of our time was gruesomely murdered in front of his own house. We are talking about Gianni Versace, the founder of the world-famous Versace label named after him, whose sister, Donatella Versace, has maintained the empire since his death. But how did this gruesome murder come about in the first place? The second season of the "American Crime Story" called "Assassination of Gianni Versace" provides a profound insight into the lives of both - the murderer Andrew Cunanan, as well as the fashion god Gianni Versace and tells of the relationship that the two have to each other. This series is definitely not for everyone: Because it is full of violent crime and murder stories. But: It portrays the tragically short but beautiful life of Versace and his sister Donatella - played by Penelope Cruz - in a realistic way and shows exclusive insights into the life of the fashion designer.
The Assassination of Gianni Versace can be found on Netflix.
From orphan to the most famous face of the fashion industry - even 50 years after her death. Coco Chanel's story is unique. And it shows her atypical path from a poor singer and dressmaker who was discovered by a rich businessman and turned the whole fashion scene of the time around. Because hardly anyone after her can turn elegance and "less is more" it-pieces into fashion masterpieces. Coco Chanel's life has been filmed a few times, but the 2009 film "Coco before Chanel" starring Audrey Tatou, who we all know from "The Enchanting World of Amelie", and Benoît Poelvoorde, who has starred in many French flicks - such as the film adaptation of Asterix and Obelix or the award-winning 2018 film "A-Basin Full of Men" - is particularly recommended.

10.: This film is a hot tip from us: The French film "Saint Laurent", released in 2015, portrays the life of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in his heyday in the 60s and 70s. The film shows an exciting insight into the French fashion scene of the seventies, the friendships between fashion icons such as Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, the LGBTQI+ community during this time, and what it was like back then when designer Yves Saint Laurent was made his brand. Celebrity cast is also present in this - with Louis Garrel, who we know from many French films or from the 2019 release Little Women, but also Helmut Berger, the Austrian acting legend can be seen.
You can rent Saint Laurent on Amazon Prime.
A classic from 2006. We've probably all seen the famous Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway flick at least once. But let's face it: a list of fashion films simply wouldn't be complete without "The Devil Wears Prada". Even if the film is not really about Prada, but about the - not always so fabulous - work of young journalist Andrea Sachs in the fashion editorial department of Runway magazine with the dreaded world-famous Miranda Priestly. Perfect for a cozy evening in or when you fancy some light, funny fare.
