Trendbag SS21: The “Vanity” by Chanel
Downsizing
Reduction to the absolute essentials is a social trend that can be found in many areas: from Tiny Houses to sim- plification, which even finds its way into Michelin-starred kitchens - bigger is not always better, and those who own a lot are gradually distancing from excess. Handbags are currently being treated in a similar way, because in addition to the contras- ting programme in the form of over- size shoppers, business is also flourishing with small-format bags - or rather purses.
Playing with style
Virginie Viard shows several miniatures of classic designs for Chanel that do not only dangle from the wrist or neck. This is a clear indication that some of the small-format models are more likely to be decorative accessories than practical companions. What some may be missing in terms of capacity, most are compensating through their charming appearance.
Delicate beauty
One example of this is the “Vanity Bag“, with its latest reinterpretation in quilted lambskin leather with golden details and slender dimensions of 8.5 x 11 x 7 cm and a holding capacity of around 0.65 litres. It only partially fulfils its original purpose of being a means of transport for miscellaneous cosmetics - if you do not want to have your mobile phone and credit card case around, you‘ll eventually find space for lipstick and powder. But perhaps that too is in the spirit of deliberate reduction.
