Time For Heroines
Wave of success
An ankle-length plaid by Loewe, voluminous shoulders by Givenchy, or cocktail-ready by Valentino - Capes are cementing their role as the new darling of luxury brands in the current season. What is most striking here is the range that the all-rounder has recently covered: Whether traditional or elegant, the former signature piece of a bourgeois wardrobe now also plays in the fashionable upper league.
Play with proportions
The phenomenal rise is mainly due to the versatile use of volume. Rick Owens, for example, relies on XXL down and sportswear elements, while Giambattista Valli swears on the meticulously tailored military version and Burberry offers a mix of classic trench coat and cape.
Ready for the red carpet
Hybrid is an all too good keyword in this context, as it breaks down the narrow cate-gorisation of overgarments. With nonchalance, cape sleeves now cuddle the shoulders of their wearers also in eveningwear. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Valentino shows impressively how effortlessly elegant this trend can be implemented. A truly heroic performance on his part as well.
