Kali Uchis is the face of the H&M Studio collection
Radical glamour and extravagant designs: Colombian-American singer Kali Uchis embodies the golden age of Hollywood as the latest H&M Studio Star.
Old Hollywood-Glamour with a modern megastar twist
H&M Studio's SS23 collection is where elevated essentials meet extraordinary eveningwear. Inspired by the goddesses of Hollywood's Golden Age and the megastars of today, the collection combines wearability with radical glamour. Extroverted after-dark designs and outerwear mix with loungewear favourites for leisure and eye-catching accessories.
sensational, voluminous evening gowns
The most important pieces promise to catch the eye. For women, there are sensational, voluminous evening dresses that swing across the floor and graze the thighs, plus star outfits that burst with energy: An oversized trench, leather motorbike jacket and faux fur jacket exude confidence. Cool-girl denim and luxurious everyday sweats guarantee maximum elegance with minimal effort, along with chic accessories like shiny, high-end leather boots, rhinestone-studded lingerie and huge sunglasses. Two garments for women, an oversized waistcoat and a high-waisted maxi skirt, both made from a blend of organic and post-consumer cotton, have been embellished with hundreds of hand-sewn buttons. The buttons are partly made from recycled plastic collected by waste pickers in Bengaluru and reclaimed from the streets of India. This is part of an ongoing partnership between H&M Group and the social enterprise Hasiru Dala Innovations.
"Fashion is in a daring mood this season and for Studio SSS23 we wanted to push the envelope in terms of colour and silhouette. At the same time, we compensated for the more extravagant evening wear with simple, timeless styles, such as a biker leather jacket that you can wear again and again," says Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative Advisor at H&M.
In line with H&M's sustainability goals, each piece in the collection is made from more sustainable materials, including organic cotton, recycled polyester, chrome-free leather and Naia™ Renew, a recycled fibre made from 60% sustainably sourced pulp and 40% certified recycled waste.
"This season, the design team was intrigued by the idea of a modern megastar who seamlessly glides between a casual off-duty look and a glamorous gown for the red carpet. For today's social media-savvy generation, staying real is just as important as looking a million dollars, and we wanted to create a collection that could go from day to night and from casual to everyday without compromising on flair," says Linda Wikell, concept designer for H&M Studio.
The H&M Studio SS23 collection will be available online at hm.com on March 2.
