Jeremy Scott leaves the creative direction of Moschino

A new cycle closes in the Italian fashion industry. In a surprise press release, Moschino announces that after 10 years Jeremy Scott is leaving the creative direction of the brand.

The brand founded by Franco Moschinohad found in Jeremy Scott what appeared to be its natural heir. Ever since his appointment in October 2013, the American designer has shown himself to be the perfect interpreter of Moschino's DNA, the creative person capable of shaping and revitalising the brand's imagery, reinforcing a new harmony between the brand's joie de vivvre and disruptive, unconventional style with the esprit du temp and contemporaneity. And so it was.

One of the coolest names in the fashion biz of the 1910s, a great friend of Hollywood stars and celebrities, with his pop-camp style, cartoon graphics, logomania and language borrowed from the world of advertising campaigns, consumerism and mass communication, together with his cheeky use of social media, Jeremy Scott has perfectly fused his style with that of the brand, writing an important fashion chapter for the maison, triggering significant reflections on the role of fashion in our times with his collections and his sense of humour.

"I don't speak italian, but i do speak Moschino".

-Jeremy Scott

This was certainly the big boost that Jeremy gave to the brand right from the start, surrounded by hype, excitement and anticipation for his first fashion show. It was the Fall Winter 2024 2015 collection and his debut on the Milan catwalk celebrated by his friends Rita Ora and Katy Perry in the front row, with the fashion show dedicated to fast food/fast fashion, the Spongebob prints and those of candy wrappers, the clothes with the Moschino M's mimicking the McDonald's logo and colours, already said a lot about what was happening to the fashion system and what would happen even more precipitously from then on. A manifesto of the vision that the designer was ready to infuse into the brand's collections.

The truth, however, is that in recent years the world around them has changed, fashion has transformed, imaginaries have emptied, and the natural time has come for both to explore the potential of a new language. We don't know what (separate) paths Jeremy Scott and the Italian fashion house will take, but we wish them both the ability to once again create a new language that can interpret the present and give voice to the future.

Jeremy Scott's words are echoed by him: "These 10 years at Moschino have been a fantastic celebration of creativity and imagination. I am really proud of the work I leave behind. I would like to thank Massimo Ferretti for giving me the honour to lead this iconic fashion house. I would also like to thank all my fans around the world who have celebrated me, my collections and my vision. Without you none of what has been would have been possible".
