Austrian Fashion Awards 2021: Petar Petrov wins
The Belvedere 21 provided the backdrop for a rather cosy evening. The local fashion scene met here (mostly after a long time). And this was also noticeable at the award ceremony, which not lacked worthy prize-winners, but the attention of the audience, which did not pay much attention to what was happening on stage. This could be due to the pandemic "eventlessness", which made the fashion crowd chatty throughout the award ceremony, or the sound system, which did not allow the whole audience to hear what was happening on stage.
Yet on this evening of the Austrian Fashion Awards, which have been presented for several years now and have renowned prize winners, there were two capacity winners of the Austrian fashion scene.
One: Petar Petrov. Not much needs to be said about the Ukrainian-born designer, who grew up in Bulgaria, but in recent years he has developed into one of the biggest names in Austrian fashion, who is also making international waves. He was awarded the "Outstanding Artist Award for Experimental Fashion Design" by the Federal Minister of Arts, Culture, Public Service, and Sport. The other one: Jojo Gronostay with Ghanaian roots, who excellently combines the experimental level of upcycling and secondhand with his label "DWMC/ Dead White Men's Clothes" and was awarded the Fashion Prize of the City of Vienna for it.
Showcase: From Christoph Rumpf to Florentina Light
Afterwards, a classic show was dispensed with, instead sending those present through the house to go on a "fashion search". Christoph Rumpf, a high-flyer since winning the 2019 Hyères Festival, and Florentina Light were represented, as was the fashion label Hisu Park, which only saw the light of day in 2021.
