Picturesque images are currently reaching us from Chanel: The French luxury company is currently on everyones lips with its teaser for the upcoming Cruise 2020/21 Collection. Under the title "Balade en Méditerranée" fashion fans can look forward to an ode to the Mediterranean. Virginie Viard's actual designs will not be revealed, but rather the short video is to be understood as an atmospheric picture of the dolce vita: Fantastic beaches, flowers and the sea... It will be interesting to see how this inspiration can be combined with the stylistic codes of the fashion house.

Roaming into the distance...

In the past, Chanel has already dedicated several collections to exotic destinations. For example, at the Métiers d'Art show in autumn 2012 entitled "Paris - Bombay", Chanel visited faraway India, transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into a Greek landscape for the Cruise Collection 2018 and dedicated the Autumn/Winter 2019/20 collection to the picturesque Swiss Alps. In the past, it was above all Viard's predecessor Karl Lagerfeld who was in charge of this work, and one cannot deny that he had a certain tendency towards theatricality. Virginie Viard, on the other hand, saw her first Cruise Collection last year as the beginning of the journey - all too symbolically, the backdrop of a reconstructed railway station has been the setting. This year the trip should have actually gone to the island of Capri, only the current health situation led to the regrettable cancellation of the actual show on the island. It is all the more gratifying that despite the Covid 19 crisis, a collection, albeit only in digital form, will now be presented. It will probably be a while before fashion fans all over the world can actually take the pieces to the beach, but even Lagerfeld himself is said to have said: "It's much more inspiring not to go to places than to go!
