The 10 Best Looks From Alexander McQueen / AW23
Creative Director Sarah Burton has once again delivered Alexander McQueen at its finest. Here's a selection of the looks we are particularly excited about!
Alexander McQueen stands for "perfectly formed" fashion: great cuts, exciting silhouettes and always with that certain something. Classic cuts suddenly create excitement again, thanks to innovation and a modern touch. Also the new collection, which was recently presented at Paris Fashion Week, does not disappoint and puts a smile on the faces of McQueen fans!
But before we look at our top ten, let's take a quick look at the concept behind the collection. Even if the concept on which a collection is based is not always immediately obvious to outsiders, for a designer the concept is like the breath of life of the collection. It is the thread that runs through the collection or the framework that holds everything together and gives creativity a direction.
The concept behind this Alexander McQueen collection?
The keyword is anatomy! When we talk about anatomy in the traditional sense, we are talking about the build, shape and structure of a body. This concept has been taken up by Creative Director Sarah Burton and interpreted in fashion. It's about the anatomy of the human body, the anatomy of clothes and the anatomy of flowers. The proportion, shapes and silhouettes of the clothes are inspired by different aspects of the anatomy of a body, but at the same time also by the anatomy of garments themselves.
Deconstruction is an important term here: classic cuts are taken apart and recreated. The fashion is tailored to the body and at the same time inspired by the inside of the body. Volume, shape and cut are three essential words to describe the collection. But not only the body plays a prominent role, but also flowers. One flower in particular takes centre stage: the orchid - as a symbol for beauty and love.
Whether you find the collection as beautiful as we do and maybe even fall in love with it a little bit is now up to you... Here come the top ten!
This look shows us once again that the combination of black and white is the non-plus-ultra for stylish elegance. A beautifully tailored pair of trousers combined with a chic blouse and you're well dressed. But here the classic look comes with a modern twist, because both the trousers and the blouse/ shirt are made of leather!
This purple coat makes for a strong appearance: not without reason the colour purple has always stood for power, luxury and extravagance, among other things. A great cut and the beautiful colour make this cool leather coat a real statement piece.
This look is for all our male style icons. If you think one-piece suits are only for women, you're wrong - or hopefully you'll change your mind after taking a look at this chic one-piece. Very trendy, in our opinion!
If any dress deserves a "wow", it's probably this one. The big draped flounces, the bare shoulders, the asymmetrical hemline that's longer at the back.... We are already wondering which star we will see on the red carpet in this dress!
The first thing you look at when you see this look is... Right, it's the shoulders. But also the narrow, accentuated waist immediately catches the eye. A look for all those who don't shy away from form- and figure-emphasising pieces.
Cream tones somehow always lend Knitwearpieces something noble. Maybe it's because light colours radiate purity and harmony. In any case, this jumper (can you even call it that!?) has nothing of an ordinary knit jumper, but rather belongs into the category "cool pieces we want to wear next winter".
Fashion can be inspired by a wide variety of themes or phenomena. Alexander McQueen's creative team gives us a lesson in "fashion anatomy" and in this look the concept of the collection (mentioned above) becomes particularly apparent: the structure of the dress is reminiscent of muscles, muscle fibres and the anatomy of the human body.
Wondering how much fabric was needed for this dress? The volume of the skirt is definitely something to behold. Special eye-catchers of the look: the significant top of the dress and the black orchid print on the red fabric.
Is this still fashion or already art? That depends on the eye of the beholder! But we are sure of one thing: the glamorous silver trend will also not be leaving us next season.
Exciting volume and a stunning silhouette - the final look of the collection - to crown our top ten!
