Fashion, Stars and a Strong Message - That Was the Dior Spring/Summer 2024 Show in Paris
Dior presented the ready-to-wear collection for the next season at Paris Fashion Week - Find out all the details about the show here.
More than "just" fashion
Fashion is never "just" about fashion itself. Fashion and what is happening in the world have always been inextricably linked. Fashion shapes the zeitgeist of an era, just as the zeitgeist and world events in turn shape fashion.
At Dior, we get that conveyed particularly clearly: The meaning of fashion can go far beyond the visible. Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri has deliberately made it her mission to draw attention to important themes at the presentations of Dior's women's collections. Time and time again, she chooses to add another, deeper level of meaning to a fashion show or collection. The focus is often on women, the role of a woman and feminist messages.
"We can choose who we want to be over and over again - also through the fashion we wear."
Female empowerment
The Dior Spring/Summer RTW 2024 show, which took place in Paris on the 26th of September, also aimed to highlight (in addition to the new collection) the uniqueness of women. While the models walked down the catwalk presenting 78 looks for the upcoming spring-summer season, a large video installation by Italian artist Elena Bellantoni played in the background. Sexist pop-art style advertisements alternated with strong slogans and phrases. The artwork is meant to point out that there are still so many expectations of what women should be like in order to fit into certain boxes. Slogans like "it's not her, she's no longer all that" want to break with that.
The message: It's about choosing who you want to be, in a world that has so many opinions about who and how you should be as a woman. We can choose who we want to be, over and over again - also through the fashion we wear.
Monochrome witch chic
But now back to the collection that was presented. Spring/summer at Dior is dressed in black, white and ash tones. Classics with a slightly androgynous touch make the boundaries between menswear and womenswear less clear. Other looks, meanwhile, have a certain lightness and playfulness about them. Prints blur, iconic patterns like the Mille-Fleurs have been reinterpreted. The collection is inspired by rebels - witches and other women who chose unconventional paths. The mystical, the dark therefore runs like a red thread through the collection. It's a side of Dior we haven't seen before. Have a look for yourself...
P.S. By the way, Dior fans not only excitedly awaited the new collection, but also the appearance of many high-profile guests. Among them were actress Charlize Theron, K-pop star Kim Jisoo, top model Romeo Strijd and influencer Chiara Ferragni (to name just a few).
