Zaha Hadid Architects Gear Up to Create Smart City in Russia
Zaha Hadid Architects has officially been selected to build the new Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye neighborhood in Russia, a smart city which will accommodate nearly 70,000 people. Located near Moscow, the new development will include schools, medical clinics, transportation systems, as well as cultural institutions, to support local residents. Additionally, a booming business sector is planned as well, with approximately 800,000 square meters of office space dedicated to Moscow’s growing financial and legal sectors. Partnering with Russian firm TPO Pride Architects, the innovative city will be designed with sustainability as a main priority.
The London-based firm is known for its contemporary style and minimalistic colors, with works in countries like China, Cyprus, Germany, and France. With a unique perspective on architecture that includes the avoidance of 90-degree angles, much of Hadid’s work can be characterized by dramatic slopes and softer lines. Notably, the late architect’s only residential building is located in New York City adjacent to the High Line, with a penthouse space valued at $50 million.
