not cancelled: Vienna's first virtual art week goes online
Museums, galleries, trade fairs, studios - social isolation also puts the art and culture industry to a hard test. With the launch of the digital platform "not cancelled", 15 Viennese addresses offer a counter to this: Austria's first online-only Art Week makes contemporary art from April 2 to 9, 2020, an experience even in times like these. As a virtual meeting place with guided tours, talks and behind-the-scenes insights. In addition, not cancelled offers interested parties the opportunity to get in touch with the participating galleries and to request artworks directly.
Art experience 2.0
With not cancelled Austria gets a new format of art education. The one-week event offers a collective exhibition of contemporary art at www.notcancelled.art. Every day new happenings take place analogous to a real event - just on the net: virtual tours and tours as live stream, interviews and making-of videos with a look behind the scenes and into the studios of renowned artists.
15 Viennese galleries invite to the digital showroom as part of not cancelled, among them both renowned and young addresses: Croy Nielsen, Ermes Ermes, Exile, Galerie Emanuel Layr, Felix Gaudlitz, Galerie Hubert Winter, Georg Kargl Fine Arts. BOX., Galerie Martin Janda, Galerie Meyer Kainer, Galerie nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, Gianni Manhattan, Shore, Sophie Tappeiner, Vin Vin and Zeller van Almsick
Background
Behind the idea stands the Viennese digital agency treat.agency. Istvan Szilagyi, initiator of not cancelled and founder and owner of treat, also sees a chance for the art industry in the forced retreat into the private sphere: "The digital experience will not replace the physical visit to a gallery. With not cancelled, however, we want to support the ecosystem of the domestic art and gallery scene in not only surviving this crisis, but perhaps even emerging from it stronger," says Istvan Szilagyi, who makes the platform available to interested parties and gallery owners free of charge.
