Where to stay in Lisbon: Of course, at the Hotel "The Vintage Lisbon"

The Portuguese capital has a lot to offer. In addition to art, culture and plenty of culinary delights, there are exceptional hotels such as "The Vintage Lisbon" in the heart of the vibrant metropolis.

With the hotel "The Vintage Lisbon", the essence of the city has been combined in its most beautiful retro form into a feast for the senses. In addition to a spa with a tranquility pool and steam bath, there is also a rooftop bar, a restaurant, and a spacious lobby with its own bar that allows guests to experience the best of one of Europe's most beautiful cities.

The Vintage Lisbon is more than just a hotel with a fantastic interior - it is part of the Portuguese capital and is located right in the center. Opened in 2019, it's a must-stay for anyone who loves retro design! Design, by the way, is everywhere. Art, too. For example, the large mobile in the entrance hall, designed by Riva Baake and Wilfred Kreutz. In the rooms, we encounter colorful prints by Brian de Graft and João Rei.

For all art lovers, here are a few facts about the works found in the house. Quiet Studios was responsible for the project, the graphic artwork was sourced by Omey Projects. That's why you can find a unique mix of mid-century pieces by Kai Kristiansen, Erik Buch, Poul Cadovius, Johannes Andersen, and Arne Vodder. Above the bar in the hotel lobby is a painting of an imaginary fado singer by the well-known Portuguese painter Margarita Fleming.

From a de-stress massage to the best gin and tonic in Lisbon

Located in one of the most beautiful and trendy areas of Lisbon, The Vintage Lisbon is the perfect starting point for all "expeditions" to the Portuguese capital.

Before that, however, you can feel even more "at home", because the rooms, which are either dark green, dark blue, or terracotta, captivate with their minimalist furnishings. Almost no room is the same as the other, because the converted building had to be newly adapted. On the other hand, there is a convenient parking garage for those arriving by car. In general, thanks to the airport located in the city, traveling to Lisbon is an ideal way to avoid spending a lot of time getting to and from the hotel.

You almost feel like a local, because the hotel pleasantly does not look like one from the outside and the rooms can be reached quickly. Especially if you want to freshen up quickly after a long day in the city and before dinner, the central location is ideal. And did we mention that with Uber in Lisbon, any destination can be reached quickly?

But back to the hotel. The hotel lift takes you directly to the fourth basement floor, where you can unwind in the pleasant atmosphere of the spa. The indoor pool is one of the advantages of "The Vintage Lisbon" that you will appreciate if you want to take a dip after a day full of impressions. In addition, there is a warm staff that pampers you with facials or massages. The beauty products used here are from the Portuguese brand Benamôr, which has been one of the best-known in Portugal for almost 100 years. While we are on the subject of beauty care, we must of course also mention that a small tube of the legendary Portuguese toothpaste Couto is waiting in the room for every guest. This is just one of the examples of how much emphasis has been placed on coherence at "The Vintage Lisbon".

The Rooftop Bar on the 4th floor is small, fine and almost intimate. Here you can get excellent snacks, such as salads or a burger. There is also a selection of excellent cocktails. For the gin and tonic, we recommend the Portuguese version. If you want to mix a cocktail or rather a gin and tonic in your room, you will find the necessary utensils on the bar trolley in every room.

5 things you must do in Lisbon

  1. Enjoy the streets by day and by night: The metropolis is an absolute dream with its beaches on the Atlantic coast. Colourful tile facades, so famous for Portugal, can be found here in all variations. If you stroll through the city during the day, you've already done the best sightseeing programme. In the evening, the streets of the city centre are bustling with people - especially at weekends, when the weather is warm, the night owls go out. You can take a long stroll along the waterfront promenade to the museum district or through Lisbon's many alleyways.
  2. Get a table at the coveted A Cevicheria by Francisco Martins aka Chef Kiko. Booking in advance is a must, otherwise, you may be waiting outside for a long time. Equally sought-after is the authentic Brazilian food at O Boteco, right on one of Lisbon's most famous squares: Praça Luís de Camões. South American flair with a colourful interior awaits you here. Traditional dishes such as moqueca with breaded baby bananas and corn are on the menu, as is the dessert pudim de ovo
  3. If you're drawn outside the city, the wonderful beaches around Lisbon are definitely the place to go. If you don't have a car, you can book an Uber (very cheap in Lisbon). On the Costa da Caparica, for example, you will find the small beach club Praia da Princesa with excellent food.
  4. Numerous rooftop bars await you in Lisbon. One that offers a view of both the city and the water is the Lumi Bar, right on top of one of the chicest addresses in the city: The Lumiares boutique hotel.
  5. If the weather doesn't cooperate, Lisbon has numerous museums that feature modern art, among other things. These include the Museu Coleção Berardo or The National Museum of Contemporary Art.
