SACRED PLANET BY RITA SABO FOR #ART4GLOBALGOALS
From 19 September 2023 to 27 September 2023, Rita Sabo's exhibition "Sacred Planet by Rita Sabo for #Art4GlobalGoals" was on display at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals set by the United Nations in 2015 to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. The five "P "s of the SDGs stand for the five core principles that guide the implementation of the SDGs. These principles are People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. Rita Sabo for #Art4GlobalGoals picks up the message of supporting awareness and action for the goals by illustrating and promoting the 17 goals in her art. For Rita Sabo, inspiring people and helping to uphold the promise of a better world is a matter close to her heart. An ideal that she shares wholeheartedly.
At the #Art4GlobalGoals awareness campaign exhibition at UNESCO Headquarters, visitors have the opportunity to explore, understand and internalise the Global Sustainability Goals through their art. With its visual symphony of 17 (+1) sculptures, the exhibition creates an atmosphere of reflection on our shared future. Each sculpture, labelled "Sacred Planet", appears as a core piece of Rita Sabo's artwork. The sculptures represent the deep intertwining of human destiny with the cosmic fabric. The "Sacred Planet" sculptures are rooted in ancient sacred patterns and evoke the divine beauty of our cosmology, reflecting the complex harmony that permeates our universe. Each "Sacred Planet" serves as a reminder of the aspirations that humanity must dedicate itself to in order to meet the challenges of our time. Therefore, the 17 "Sacred Planet" sculptures stand united in strict symmetrical perfection, symbolising humanity's collective journey towards achieving the Global Sustainability Goals.
Another impressive Sacred Planet, painted in the 17 distinctive colours of the SDG logos, brings together all the Sustainable Development Goals in a separate sculpture. The link between the sculptures in the Salle Ségur, at the entrance to UNESCO headquarters in Paris, conveys a profound insight - that our values, beliefs and systems can indeed coexist in harmony - and thus inspires a quiet hope for the future.
"I want to motivate people to make conscious choices that will have a positive effect on the environment and society. It is equally important that we strengthen the connection between people and nature in order to protect and preserve our planet and ultimately create a better future for generations to come. The Sacred Planet with the 17 colours of the UN Sustainable Development Goals therefore represents all these goals in one: their implementation." - Rita Sabo
As she is deeply moved by UNESCO's tireless commitment to the promotion and implementation of the SDGs, Rita Sabo also displays a personal dedication to UNESCO in the form of a large-scale painting. The kaleidoscopic artwork, reminiscent of a magnificent landscape, is a vivid representation of the shared values that Rita Sabo makes visible as an interpretation of UNESCO's values. It represents a commitment to the transformative power of collective action and is Rita Sabo's personal and heartfelt expression of gratitude to UNESCO for creating a place of hope and developing a vision for a sustainable future for all.
As part of the vernissage, Nada Al Hassan (Senior Coordinator UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Programme), Anthony Ohemeng-Boamah (Deputy Director-General UNESCO for Africa and External Relations), Dr. Axel Küchle (UNESCO Delegate Germany) as well as Dr. h.c. The vernissage was rounded off by a musical performance by singer Enola Cox.
