Lewis Hamilton: Tommy X Lewis
This is your fifth “Tommy x Lewis” collection. How do your collections continue to evolve?
Each season, it’s important for us to further improve with regards to our sustainability mission. For the Fall 2020 collection, we placed an even stronger focus on 100% recycled denim, organic cotton and post- consumer recycling. We also continued to build on our ‘style for all’ concept, to make the collection inclusive for everyone. We’re really proud of the steps we’ve taken and what we have achieved up to this point, by keeping our commitment to sustainability and inclusivity at the heart of everything we do.
What did you do differently this season?
We took a different approach to the way we combined classic cuts and modern materials in the Fall 2020 collection. This season has a sharp contrast between brutalist, utilitarian silhouettes and super soft, plush materials like faux suede and recycled down. We also struck a new balance between honouring the brand’s heritage while embracing contemporary street style, byreimagining iconic archive pieces.
Where did you take your inspiration from this season?
My inspiration came from being someone who loves and appreciates fashion and individual style, but who is always on the go. I really wanted to design pieces that could travel internationally and work, no matter where in the world they’re worn. The Fall 2020 collection is truly versatile in the way that it transcends local trends and maintains a global appeal.
Which themes play out in the collection?
The theme of loyalty is still present in the Fall 2020 collection. Loyalty has always been important to me, I even have it tattooed on my arm, so it’s really special to be able to incorporate a message that’s close to my heart.
Which three words would you use to describe the collection?
Powerful. Daring. Refreshing.
What role does comfort play in the collection?
Besides creating a collection that offers maximum physical comfort, it was also important for Tommy and me to design pieces that everyone felt comfortable being themselves in. The collection is stripped back to the basics. It’s about being authentically and comfortably you.
