The biggest girl group of their generation: Little Mix celebrates its 10th anniversary
If you've never heard of Little Mix before, then you'd better prick up your ears because you don't want to miss this! Little Mix is a British girl group that got its start on the famous casting show 'The X-Factor (UK)'. Since then, it has been one of the longest-running western girl groups of all time!
Little Mix already made history when they were formed: they were the first girl group to win 'The X-Factor (UK)' on 11 December 2011! Little Mix has been in existence since 19.11.2011 after changing its name from Rhyhmix to Little Mix. They were put together by former judge Kelly Rowland, who herself had been part of a very successful girl group - Destiny's Child.
The group formerly consisted of four members: Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall. Since then, the girls have achieved enormous milestones in their careers. So far, they have had five number 1 singles in the UK charts. These include their debut single 'Cannonball' (2011), 'Wings' (2012), 'Black Magic' (2015), 'Shout Out to My Ex' (2016), and 'Sweet Melody' (2020), which went to number one earlier this year.
They also won, in 2017, their first Brit Award, in the category 'Best British Single', with their hit single 'Shout Out to My Ex' from their album Glory Days (2016). Just two years after that, they won a Brit Award in the same category, this time for their feminist-anthem 'Woman Like Me (feat. Nicki Minaj)' (2018).
Little Mix has also collaborated with numerous well-known artists, such as rapper and music producer Missy Elliot, the Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj, singer and TikTok phenomenon Jason Derulo, and many more world stars!
However, in December 2020, Jesy Nelson decided to leave the group because the constant pressure of being in a girl group took a toll on her mental health. However, Perrie, Leigh-Anne, and Jade are not ready to leave Little Mix behind and are still unbeatable as a trio and stronger than ever!
Indeed, it did not take long before Little Mix made history again. This May, the trio became the first girl group ever to win a Brit Award in the category 'Best British Group'. As a sign of their gratitude for being the first girl group to accept this award, the trio gave a shout-out in their speech not only to their former bandmate Jesy Nelson, but to many other girl groups, like the Spice Girls, who were nominated for this award many years before them, always ended up not winning it, but definitely deserved to. Now that's what we call true girl power!
To celebrate their 10th anniversary as a group, the trio releases their new album 'Between Us', which includes all their hit songs, such as 'Wings', 'Sweet Melody' and many more, plus five brand new tracks, such as 'Love (Sweet Love)', 'Trash', 'Cut You Off', 'Between Us' and 'No'. The new tracks, and many of her previous songs, are about friendship, self-love, and seeing yourself as a priority.
According to MidWeek, the album is expected to reach number #1 on the official UK album charts as early as this week, currently neck-and-neck with pop star Taylor Swift and her re-recorded version of her 2012 album "Red".
Woman Like Me 3.0: We say "Yes" to Little Mix's new single "No"
With the release of their new album came a new music video for the single 'No'. The song's lyrics follow a similar theme to Jennifer Lopez's song 'Ain't Your Mama' (2016) or even Little Mix's previous song 'Woman Like Me' (2018). The two Little Mix music videos are also very similar in terms of aesthetics.
In the music video for 'No', Little Mix plays three housewives, who are tired of constantly taking care of the household. So they say "no" and control their three men with a retro remote control so that they do housework for them. So if you're in the mood for new music and want to be entertained as well, then it's definitely worth taking a look at the music video!
One leaves, three come along: Little Mix gets offspring!
The song 'No' is definitely something some mothers can relate to. Even bandmates Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Because both of them became mothers a few months ago! Miss Edwards had a cute little baby boy named Axel. Miss Pinnock, on the other hand, soon to be Mrs. Gray after her engagement to British football star Andre Gray, was doubly lucky and had twins, whose gender and names are unfortunately still unknown.
They both seem to want to enjoy motherhood a bit now and justifiably so! Leigh-Anne and Perrie filmed five music videos for the songs 'Heartbreak Anthem' with Galantis and hitmaker David Guetta, 'Confetti' with a verse by newcomer rap star Saweetie, 'Kiss My (Uh Oh)' with radio-hitmaker Anne-Marie, 'Love (Sweet Love)' and of course the new single 'No' while being pregnant!
We wish them both all the best and hope to see them back on stage with 'Auntie Jade' soon.
