Let's Talk about Statement Rings
This winter, we are embracing a bold take on jewellery. How can we achieve this? As seen on celebrities during the past few months, chunky, colourful rings have made a comeback this year. The fantastical candy coloured rings that come in all shapes and colours offer considerable attitude. The surge in brands selling the decadent jewellery also indicates the rising trend.
If you lack the motivation to put on a proper outfit during lockdown, consider turning your attention to your hands and setting them in scene for your next zoom call. Stacked-up, the flamboyant rings are a guaranteed mood lift. This trend is all about playing with different shapes and colours, and most importantly, to have fun. Stack them up however you like and play into the retro poolside glamour of our maximalist fantasy.
It-brit and model daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost Iris Law is the poster child of the trend. She consistently flaunts her vast ring collection on her Instagram. Law seems always to include a piece by jewellery brand La Manso. Spanish designer Adriana Manso is adding decadent touches to our stay at home looks with her colourful, kaleidoscopic rings. La Manso uses upcycled plastic to create something long-lasting. With each purchase, the brand sends a pair of latex gloves to encourage its buyers to wear her statement rings even for the most mundane of tasks.
Dua Lipa is rocking her La Manso rings in a full fresh-from-the-runway Rick Owens fit. Another lover of the brand is Miley Cyrus, who lavishly stacked the jewels in her music video for her latest single “Midnight Sun”.
A more extravagant option is available at Balenciaga. Their pink resin ring with the brand's logo and crystal-cut detailing is fulfilling all our childhood jewellery dreams.
Another great place to shop the statement jewellery is at British brand Alerria. The sixteen-year-old designer is handmaking all her resin rings and selling them for affordable prices online. We particularly love her peach rings and her stud rings as seen on influencer and fashionista Mathilde Mellor.
If you are on a budget or looking for the most sustainable option, flea markets and charity shops are the best places to get your hands on one of these new clunky rings. Or you might have a look in your childhood's bedroom for any leftover lucite rings. Because spoiler alert: the jewellery trend is a remnant of the late nineties, early 2000s.
