Interview: Instagram Personality Frollein Herr brings the color inspiration for spring!
How would you describe your own style?
Karoline Herr: "Rather maximalist than minimalist, colorful, nostalgic here and there, and always changing."
What role does the internet play in your design endeavors?
Karoline Herr: "Definitely a very big role! How else would I know about all the great Scandinavian designers and labels like Gustaf Westman, Montana & Co. whose aesthetics and design language I love so much?! I'm very grateful that the internet and social media let us look into other people's homes - there's so much to discover and I'm always on the lookout for new impulses."
Pinterest or Instagram? Where do you get your inspiration?
Karoline Herr: "Definitely on both! Pinterest is the perfect place for DIYs or tutorials and on Instagram, I find new labels or accounts every day."
Where do you buy and find your items?
Karoline Herr: "In my favorite online stores that I visit regularly, like Trouva, Pamono, The Ode to, De Bijenkorf, Ambiente Direct, or Design Bestsellers, on Instagram, on blogs, or in magazines."
If you were to start from scratch again - what would you do differently in your home? Or would everything stay the same?
Karoline Herr: "Our bedroom would probably be less white - a horror for me! And maybe I would have opted for my own kitchen after all when I moved in, rather than the landlord's. But hey, I'm happy about any project and so I still have a bit to go."
To everyone who wants a more uniform style: What should you look for and what tips can you give?
Karoline Herr: "Actually, I think that personal taste takes care of that all by itself, but if you want to approach it a bit more planned, you should start with one highlight piece per room (bed, sofa, dresser, etc.). Everything else is then oriented in color and style to this piece. Personally, mood boards always help me. There you can visualize wall colors, carpets, and furniture together before buying."
Among other things, you have successfully tried out the foam mirror trend yourself. What's the next DIY project on the agenda?
Karoline Herr: "Phew, good question! I actually have new ideas every week. Most recently, I made a tile table and dressed up vases with modeling measurements. That's definitely where I want to try more. Maybe a candlestick?"
And what furniture or decor order are you most looking forward to at the moment?
Karoline Herr: "Three months of anticipation for my new desk from Gustaf Westman was huge, and it arrived last week. That's definitely enough for now!"
