Samsøe Samsøe: Why we are already looking forward to autumn-winter 2022
A nod to the youth culture of 90s London, the first collection from new head of womenswear, Meme Marta Fagiuoli, Samsøe Samsøe's Autumn Winter 2022 focuses on the shape and proportions of the body, with a focus on experimental proportions and silhouettes designed to suit every body type. Samsøe Samsøe borrows from grunge and rave styles for their "Past Present Future" collection, inspired by the fast-paced lifestyle of 90s London.
Even though Meme Marta Fagiuoli has set out to design more inclusively, Samsøe Samsøe's strong design DNA is still present. Inspired by the "mood and vibe of the 1990s", as she puts it, oversized silhouettes are paired with something oppositely slim underneath. Inspired by the subcultures that defined the era, particularly grunge and rave, her Autumn Winter 2022 collection features more relaxed shapes and exaggerated silhouettes, such as bomber and puffer jackets and oversized cardigans, printed fleece jackets, half zips and deconstructed dresses. The focus is unmistakably on texture. Crochet comes in polo shirts, dresses and handbags this season, while slick silks have been offset by chunky knits.
An eye-catching colour palette of bright orange, bold purple and electric green dominates the collection, contrasted by muted shades of caramel and chocolate. Bold pops of colour adorn jacquards and boiled wools, rough surfaces and chunky cable knits, while sober tones give the collection its typically Scandinavian groundedness. Zebra is a recurring trend pattern in the collection that may soon replace leopard.
