Movie "Spencer": What does Kristen Stewart wear in the Movie?
The official trailer of Spencer, the biographical drama about the British fashion icon once, Princess Diana was released on September 23.
Directed by filmmaker Pablo Larrain (who made the film Jackie starring Natalie Portman) and written by Steven Knight (director of the hit series Peaky Blinders), Spencer is the story of decision-making and a Princess Diana that ends her cold marriage to Prince Charles.
Far from being a purely historical drama, Spencer is more of a "guess" on the crew's part as to what might have happened that fateful Christmas break in 1991. Footage from Spencer recounts the sad reality of Diana, Princess of Wales: the glitz and glamor of the lifestyle at the Queen's Sandringham Estate is just a cover for a life under scrutiny by cold people with a strict list of rules.
Taking a deep breath, Diana Kristen Stewart tried to reassure herself in the bathroom: "Only three days."
Dressed in gorgeous and lavish outfits, but it seems that throughout the trailer, Diana is even more depressed by a marriage that is full of disagreements with fierce paparazzi. At one point, her son asked, "Mom, what happened to make you so sad?" . Later, Charles told her, "You must be able to do the things you hate".
Diana knew her fate well. "I have no hope ," she said. "If I'm still with them."
Spencer by Neon and Topic Studios is scheduled to hit theaters on November 5. But before enjoying the performance of Kristen Steward, a strong candidate for the next Oscar season, let's take a look at the impressive outfits that appeared in the trailer and compare them to what they are. What is the real-life costume of the late Princess like?
Glamorous, regal evening dress
As a longtime CHANEL brand ambassador, it's only natural that Stewart would wear classic CHANEL designs in a movie as heavily invested in costumes as Spencer. On the film's official poster, Kristen Steward wears a beige organza evening gown, tailored based on the 82nd design of CHANEL's Spring 1988 Couture Collection.
The dress is studded with gold and silver sequins in round, oval and leaf shapes, forming flower spikes. The design took 1,034 hours of work by five tailors to complete and looks a lot like the dress Princess Diana wore to the 1987 "James Bond: The Living Daylight" premiere.
Red long coat
This is the second classic CHANEL design Stewart has worn in the Spencer trailer - a red tweed jacket with a tailored collar from the Fall 1988 CHANEL Collection, Patrimoine de Chanel. The film's costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, teamed the shirt with a veiled black hat to resemble the outfit Princess Diana wore for Christmas 1993.
Understandably, Durran chose this striking red shirt instead of the frenetic lilac suit Diana actually wore that year to emphasize the intense emotions in the Princess's marital breakdown. .
Catherine Walker's tartan suit
Catherine Walker is one of the Princess' most trusted tailors, an estimated 1,000 pieces of clothing for Diana. This tartan coat was loved by Diana in the late 80s and early 90s. The shirt was first seen during a visit to France in 1988 and then reappeared in Hampshire in 1989, in Suffolk in 1990 and in Cornwall in 1991. For all of her last visits, the Duchess paired the coat with a white turtleneck blouse.
In the film, Stewart also wears a replica of the world-famous sapphire and diamond Garrard engagement ring that has become a familiar element of Diana's style.
Power suit
In the late 1980s, Diana ditched the frills typical of her early princess life in favor of designs with sharper, elegant, and more powerful silhouettes. Diana also chooses bright colors to always stand out from the crowd.
In Spencer, we see Stewart wearing a lime-yellow suit with white trim, a reference to this milestone in the Duchess's style change. The lapels were long and curved, and cut across the chest, like the pastel pink suit Diana loved so much - she'd worn it at least eight times. Both of these inspired outfits were designed by Catherine Walker.
Varsity Jacket
In a scene on the beach, Stewart is confiding in Maggie in a black and red coat, one of Diana's favorite items back in 1993. It's a rare breath of fresh air in Cong's wardrobe. princess, besides powerful tailoring designs for travels and gorgeous evening dresses for dinner parties.
