Milano Fashion Week: Versace + Fendi = Fendace
Fendi x Versace - when designers swap roles: Donatella Versace and the Fendi clan around the new creative director Kim Jones have probably been inspired by Balenciaga and Gucci, who already surprised us this spring with a joint collection.
And so Versace x Fendi aka "Fendace" followed, quickly. For this power combo, the creative minds behind Fendi and Versace swapped roles for their collaboration. Kim Jones, and Silvia Venturini Fendi took over the design for Versace's womenswear and menswear. Donatella Versace, on the other hand, designed her own interpretation of a Fendi collection.
In the course of and trusting this collaboration, both houses then even granted their counterpart a complete insight into their design archives, in order to delve even deeper into the very signature with which both houses have become so successful.
The result of this fashion experiment is a very logo-heavy collection, inspired by their friendship and celebrating the artistic heritage of both brands they lead.
At Versace, Kim Jones combined the Medusa motif with the Fendi monogram, but it already playfully blended into the overall look.
With lots of gold and detailed accessories, the models walked the runway illuminated by disco balls. In 24 Versace looks, designed by Fendi, the classic fashion approach of the house founder Gianni Versace from the 90s was nevertheless clearly recognizable.
Also at Fendi the fashion codes of the fashion houses meet in every look. Donatella Versace just here also went the way of the 90s with her vision for Fendi and used punk rock accents in her 25 look collection for Fendi and so also reinterpreted the classic Fendi F monogram with safety pins and crystals.
It was clear that this collaboration would cause quite a stir. To make sure everything worked out, they reactivated the supermodel squad of the 90s, which already made fashion history with Gianni Versace. In addition to Kate and Naomi, Amber Valetta and Gigi Hadid also came. And model offspring were also present. Dua Lipa musically opened the show, superstar Drake and Young Thug were also in the party.
It was a glittering family affair among acquaintances from start to finish, perfectly reflecting the spirit of this collaboration. While Gucci's "hacking" of Balenciaga will go down in history and Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons' co-designer partnership breaks new ground, no one can ramp up the drama quite like Donatella Versace and Kim Jones. A collaboration you won't soon forget! Brava.
