Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection 2022: Postmodern utopia

With the Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection 2022, Nicolas Ghesquière bridges the gap between futuristic designs and leisurewear in a spectacular setting!

Vuitton has chosen a monumental setting for the presentation of the Cruise Collection 2022. Specifically, the journey goes to Cergy-Pontoise, one of a total of five villes nouvelles in the greater Paris area with fascinating post-modern architecture. That fits! After all, Nicolas Ghesquière, designer at Louis Vuitton for almost 8 years, is known for being inspired by the world of science fiction. The Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection 2022 is also a prime example of his style. Extreme proportions, voluminous elements and precise silhouettes are among his trademarks. The use of innovative materials is just as characteristic as the skilful balance between elegance and coolness. No wonder celebrities like Emma Stone, Sophie Turner, Michelle Williams and Léa Seydoux are loyal fans of the brand.

On a great journey

In general, the Cruise Collections have become a fixture in the fashion calendar. Originally, the special collections were intended for an affluent audience that needed the appropriate outfits to escape to the sunny south during the cold season. Now they are welcome additions to the more formal ready-to-wear, often tempting with special limited edition models and collectors' items. Special attention is traditionally paid to the cruise collections of Louis Vuitton, Dior and Chanel.

Wanderlust despite the crisis

Despite the travel restrictions of the last few months, the big fashion houses stuck to the concept of the Cruise Collections and did not pause even during the height of the pandemic. However, the crisis has an impact on the show calendar! While in the past the presentation of the Cruise Collections was a welcome occasion to invite celebrities and journalists to exotic locations, this season they have to make do with digital formats again. Several of the big players also chose locations in the brand's home country for the presentation. The timing is also surprisingly late: usually held in May, the Cruise Collections this year extend into June. As one of the last brands, the French fashion house Dior will show its Cruise Collection on 17th of June in Athens.
