Karl Lagerfeld to be honored posthumously at Met Gala 2023
You can think about what you like about Karl Lagerfeld's work. But one thing is clear: not only did the designer revitalize Chanel, a fashion house that had fallen into disrepair decades ago (and led it to billions in profits), but he also revitalized Fendi and successfully founded his own brand. And while we're on the subject of listing his incredible milestones, it's worth mentioning that H&M launched its first-ever designer collaboration with the design maestro in 2004. A sound barrier that Karl Lagerfeld broke between worlds at the time. But so was the eloquent North German who commented on the fashion world with his many pointed quotes.
Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2018, will now be given a special badge of honor. The annual Met Gala will honor him with a tribute next year. The annual event in New York City, which celebrates the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Exhibition, celebrates the designer and his life's work.
Dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld's iconic work and six-decade career, the exhibition explores his creative process, from sketching and drawing to garments that have changed the course of culture. The exhibition will be on view from May 5 through July 16, 2023. The Costume Institute benefit - called the "Met Gala" - will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023.
To coincide with the announcement, KARL LAGERFELD has unveiled 77 exclusive editions of Karl's most iconic design: the white shirt. Each unique piece has been individually printed with Karl's original sketches and hand-signed with the limited edition number. The shirts are accompanied by a unique collector's box that includes a keepsake art print from Karl's studio in Paris. In addition, all proceeds from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the Met. The 77 limited edition shirts are available now exclusively at KARL LAGERFELD stores in Paris (Boulevard Saint-Germain) and Milan (pop-up store on Via Manzoni), as well as on KARL.COM.
