Kaia Gerber makes most important debut of her career with a Zara Capsule Collection

For the Spanish fashion giant, the supermodel was inspired by the 1990s and designed an inclusive mini collection that speaks to everyone, not just the younger generation.

Not only fashion shows and advertising campaigns. Fashion continues to work hand in hand with top models for limited edition collections, capsules and special projects. In addition to luxury and premium brands, fast fashion brands are also betting on the creative tandem. The first to be hired was Kate Moss who, starting in 2007, signed a collection for Topshop for several seasons, achieving considerable sales success. The image of the British retailer, associated with one of the most famous faces in luxury, benefited from a different perception, attracting a new audience. It is the same strategy that H&M has been implementing for years, which has initiated collaborations with high-end labels, from Karl Lagerfeld to Versace, Moschino and Giambattista Valli. Now it's Zara's turn with supermodel Kaia Gerber.

During Paris Fashion Week, supermodel Kaia Gerber, 21, debuted her first collection for the Zara brand -  and already sizes are in short supply (but a coming soon note gives hope of additions). The capsule of over 30 pieces - from clothing to shoes and accessories - has a timeless silhouette and key pieces reworked, reshaped and reinvented to suit today's customers.  

The news follows just a few weeks after the launch of Zara's capsule collection with designer Narciso Rodriguez, confirming in fact the Spanish brand's desire to accelerate its bond with luxury by involving its direct protagonists, from designers to models, a strategy in which it started later than its direct competitors, H&M in primis.

"For this collaboration with Zara," said the model, "I asked myself whether it would be possible to create a collection with everything you need in your wardrobe. 'If I were travelling and packing a suitcase', I asked myself, 'would I be able to meet all kinds of needs?' I think the result was achieved."

Back to the 90s

Black and white are the predominant colours of the thirty-piece capsule collection of garments and accessories, inspired by the 1990s and immortalised on Gerber by photographer Fabien Baron. The intention of the new designer is to propose 'new classics' of the wardrobe, cool and functional in line with the metropolitan, minimalist style and rock attitude of the super model daughter of top model Cindy Crawford.

An oversize men's white shirt completely open at the back. A raven black satin bralette and soft silk pyjamas. A cream silk dress has a slit on the upper thigh. The whole collection plays on an updated twist of the minimalist codes of the time.

In white: a long ivory satin dress with very thin straps, a bare back and side slit, a cropped wool turtleneck, a shirt with a slit in the back and a sleeveless, high-necked ribbed knit dress to match the matching cardigan.

"I wasn't just thinking about myself during the design process. I was thinking about my mum, my friends and everyone I see around me."
 

Who is Kaia Gerber? 

Kaia Jordan Gerber is an American model and actress. She is the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber. After starring in a series of ad campaigns for fashion brands since debuting at Fashion Week in 2017, Gerber won Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. She has starred in campaigns for Omega, YSL Beauty, Marc Jacobs Fragrances and many more.
