Dior Fall 2023 Show: A collection dedicated to art, culture and friendship
The Dior Fall 2023 show took place in the culturally as well as historically rich place Mumbai celebrating the artistic expertise of two women sharing long friendship history.
Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri and head of the Chanakya Atelier Karishma Swali are linked not only by their current collaboration on the Dior Fall 2023 collection, but also by a long-lasting friendship. Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai: a place of exchange and emancipation for many women is a laboratory for exploring different kinds of savoir-faire. The creative director of Dior's women's lines has long celebrated this visionary spirit, so she decided to collaborate with her friend Karishma Swali for the Fall 2023 collection. The result: a collision of two fashion spheres.
France meets India: an artistic exchange
Maria Grazia Chiuri works with timeless clothing forms that have stood the test of time and, with the help of Karishma Swali influences, allow her to (re)design her favourite models.
A colour block sequence in shades of green, yellow, pink and purple - pays homage to Marc Bohan and is embodied in the form of sophisticated evening coats, sari inspired straight skirts and traditional Indian cuts. The archives feature Dior models designed by Marc Bohan, the artistic director at the time. Marc Bohan travelled to India at the time in 1962, in particular to Mumbai and Delhi, setting in motion the dialogue between France and India.
The craftsmanship between Dior, the Chanakya Ateliers and the Chanakya School of Craft captures the diverse landscapes of India and is reflected in rich detail in the embroideries.

colourful and elegant
Geometric shapes in gold frame the silver sequins and rhinestones; enchanting decorative motifs emerge in a kaleidoscope of colours on the silk of pyjamas, blouses and dresses.
The revisited Toile de Jouy stands out in a hazy green palette that looks like camouflage. Indian landscapes and talismanic animals also adorn the creations of the current collection.
The collection presented in Mumbai is an expression of a shared vision that fully showcases the collaboration between Dior and Chanakya. This creative dialogue is a precious example of exceptional savoir-faire and underlines Dior's inseparable link between France and India.
