Controversial Fashion Trend: Louis Vuitton's Illusion Boots
These shoes are going viral: Louis Vuitton's Illusion boots. Some people love them, others would never wear them. What do you think?
The boots have already attracted a lot of attention at the Autumn/Winter 2023 show. Louis Vuitton has created a visual illusion with this design. The stiletto-heeled boots look like human legs - as if the wearer had put on high white socks and black pumps (a fashion faux pas!). But the fashion house wants to set a new trend.
These shoes are the subject of heated debate on social media. We are used to simpler creations from Louis Vuitton. Some users like the design, while others would never wear the boots. The skin colour has also been the subject of heated debate. It has become standard in the cosmetics industry to offer 40 different shades. Many users feel that the boots need a wider range of skin tones.
Optical illusions are nothing new in the world of fashion. The effect is called trompe l'oeil (translated: illusion of the eye). At the spring show in Paris, Loewe presented garments that looked like pixelated accessories from a video game. Schiaparelli also made a big splash at the spring couture show: Daniel Roseberry, the house's creative director, showed dresses with three-dimensional heads of wild animals (note: these were not real animal heads!).
Surrealism is becoming an important theme in fashion. It transports us to a world far from reality, where dreams and illusions come to light. Taken up by Schiaparelli in the 1930s, more and more designers ventured into such creations. Especially since the pandemic, a trend has developed in this direction. Illusion boots may not be to everyone's taste, but they are sure to make a statement and have a real presence.
