#PFW: Givenchy contrasts urban 90s New York with floral romance

For spring/summer 2020 Clare Waight Keller relied entirely on contradictions. Urban life meets romance.

Clare Waight Keller is preoccupied with a certain dissonance. At least that's what she's sending over the catwalk for Givenchy's next season. The society in which we live is not one-sided, the British designer seems to say. Instead, we think and dress in dichotomies.

Her vision for Spring/Summer 2020 is a meeting of the nature-loving, romantic Paris with the urban spirit of New York in the 90s. The motto of the show? All business during the day and floral romanticism in the evening. The silhouettes of the minimalistic urban wear are characterised by soft volumes with flawless, tailor-made blazers. Destroyed denim, this season's cult object, makes up another large part of the collection and is a clear homage to New York around 1990. Meanwhile the evening wear is characterized by melancholic romanticism with floral motifs that blossom on long dresses with colorful prints or precious embroidery.

A collection full of contradictions, like everyday life in the 21st century itself. 90s sobriety paired with drunken beauty.
