It's the kind of cooperation you could only wish for: Über-designer Virgil Abloh stays with the Mercedes Group, but changes brands.

He has already revolutionised the G-Class, now it's on to the next luxury brand in the house of Mercedes-Benz: Virgil Abloh will be applying his design talents to Mercedes-Maybach.

The artist, architect, creative director, and fashion designer will design a show car together with Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz. The result will be unveiled on 1 December 2021 - to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach. Unlike anything previously seen from Mercedes-Benz, and detached from previous designs and production specifications, this show car will demonstrate entirely new design possibilities. And of course - in the spirit of the times - it will be electric!

It is clear that Mercedes-Maybach will not close its mind to this new era. It will be interesting to see what Abloh will come up with for the luxury brand of superstars.

"Maybach's legacy celebrates exploration, it drives creativity, setting out to new places and living life outside the status quo. With the second chapter of our cooperation, we are taking up these ideals: We are taking the Mercedes-Maybach legacy into the future and inviting future generations to join us in honouring this icon," says Virgil Abloh. "Together we are ushering in a new age of discovery."
