The Man Behind The A-List Glow: Dr. Simon Ourian M.D.

What inspired you to pursue a career in cosmetic dermatology? 

First of all, thank you very much for having me! Science and art have always been passions of mine and working in cosmetic dermatology allows me to combine the two fields I love the most. Seeing the smile on my clients‘ faces after I have helped and treated them is what makes my job so worthwhile. 

What is your philosophy when it comes to cosmetic alterations?

My philosophy is quite broad philosophy, but the bottom line is, I think beauty is important and it is empowering. Feeling beautiful and comfortable in your own skin can really make a difference. And I find myself in a position where I can create certain types of beauty very simply, and I think that’s a huge privilege to have been blessed with. It’s a profound thing that I can do for people and that gives me the motivation to do more. I have this capability where I can do something and make changes in people’s lives and I think if I can do that and make them feel better about themselves, then I have accomplished my goal. 

What are the most popular procedures amongst your celebrity clients?

My Coolaser® treatment is a revolutionary method which arrests the appearance of aging by stimulating cell repair and collagen growth. It uses a series of light pulses to treat everything from facial lines and wrinkles to sun damage, skin pigmentation and acne scarring and delivers highly convincing results.

Facial contouring is another favored treatment by my clients followed by stem cell treatments – People notice that the jawline or cheeks of some of my famous clients have changed and they want to achieve the same results. To me, it is a basic mathematical equation of trying to achieve the right proportions and symmetry, but that’s what my brain is programmed to do and what my hands are programmed to achieve. The key is to make sure that it is done in a very proportional way. Every face is different, and I have to work on each client’s face individually.

What are your thoughts on the beauty standards of today?

If you had asked me ten years ago how things would go, I would have never guessed correctly. Seeing as no one could have predicted how the internet and social media would develop. One can only assume that many things are becoming more and more mainstream when it comes to beauty. Yet I firmly believe that one thing, in particular, will always have center stage: no matter how old you are or from which background you come – the desire to beauty will continue to manifest itself. My goal is to support people to enhance their natural beauty. Whether it's a minimally invasive facial or a new skincare routine, I always place the focus on highlighting one's own health and beauty. Skin first, make-up second!

Nobody wakes up and says: I refuse to look better today! The skill in cosmetic dermatology is not to change the face through invasive procedures, but to optimize and highlight natural beauty. For flawless skin, the skincare routine plays the most important role on the long run. I focus on carefully selected and effective ingredients that work particularly well in combination with each other.

There is a lot of focus on face-alterations these days which are inspired by celebrity faces and Instagram filters. How do you approach these kinds of requests?

Less is more and a good base is non-negotiable. Overall health and wellness of a patient focuses on the physical, mental, and social wellbeing. It is important to make a commitment to being healthy internally and externally. The healthier you are with yourself the easier it is to age gracefully.

You recently launched your very own skincare line MDO skin which incorporates everything you have learned throughout you career. Can you tell us more about this range and what makes it so effective?

Having worked in this industry for over 20 years, I am very aware that we all have different skincare needs, and this is why I carefully designed the MDO portfolio to ensure each product provides solutions to specific skincare concerns. My mission with MDO is to make professional cosmetic dermatology results available to everyone.
