Throwback: These were the beauty trends of 2021

2021 is history, but what remains are the biggest beauty trends this year has brought us. We dare to take a look back.

Power ingredients for the perfect skincare routine

Niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or retinol: 2021 was the year of power ingredients! In search of the perfect glow, we tried out the various products on the market last year with abandon. We probably owe the trend to the growing popularity of so-called skinfluencers, i.e. influencers who are specifically dedicated to the topic of skin care. We think it's great, anyway, because if you take a bit of an interest in your skin and its needs and don't shy away from trying out a new active ingredient, you can definitely achieve great results.

In this context, by the way, another buzzword became popular in 2021, namely "skinimalism", i.e. minimalism in the bathroom and the return to a few but effective beauty products. It doesn't matter whether you're more of a "more is more" or a minimalist when it comes to skincare: We think the numerous new developments in skincare are great and are already looking forward to the latest trend active ingredient in 2022!

Fifty Shades of Bob Hairstyles

The bob celebrated its big comeback last year! The straight-cut version of the hairstyle without steps, i.e. bluntly "chopped off", was particularly trendy. Whether it was styled with fine waves as a so-called "hacked bob", styled with gel to a "gelly bob" or even completely straight as a "blunt bob" - in 2021 you could hardly go wrong with a bob.

Y2K dominates fashion and beauty

The 90s and also the early 2000s celebrated their big revival in 2021. Besides all kinds of make-up trends like brown lipstick, an extra-thick, dark eyeliner as well as thin eyebrows, we also have the return of braids à la Baby Spice and Co. to thank for the trend. But don't worry, in 2021 the braids were styled far more elegantly, as Hailey Bieber's look proves.

Trend towards naturalness with the "No Make Up" look

One of the dominant make-up trends in 2021 was the "No Make Up" look. Certainly also due to the pandemic and the constant wearing of the mask, elaborate looks fell more and more into the background, while the trend towards a natural, glowy look grew stronger and stronger. Brush up the eyebrows a bit, apply mascara, a light bronzer and highlighter on the cheekbones, apply lip gloss - not much more was needed for the perfect "no make-up" look in 2021.

Nail trends: pastel meets curved lines

Pastel colours were a real must-have last year - both in fashion and beauty. We especially loved wearing the delicate colours on our nails. Just think of the trend colours sage green or lilac in spring. A mix of the different pastel shades was also extremely popular. When it comes to nail art, there were also a few trends that we eagerly copied. Our favourite: swirls, i.e. curved, organic lines on the nails. In combination with pastel colours, the trend was also a real eye-catcher that we couldn't get enough of.
