100 years of Adidas

Taschen Verlag is celebrating a sporting success story with an opulent illustrated book

The sneakers with the iconic three stripes can be found in every well-stocked shoe cabinet worldwide. Just like on the feet of numerous professional athletes. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary, Taschen Verlag has now devoted itself to a visual reappraisal of the Adidas shoe and presents it in its illustrated book »The Adidas Archive. The Footwear Collection « over 357 models including prototypes never shown and unique rarities. You can see Helmut Rahn's endgame shoes of the "Miracle of Bern", special models for Run DMC or Lionel Messi, as well as collabs with great designers, musicians and organizations such as Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Raf Simons, Stella McCartney, Yohji Yamamoto or Parley for the Oceans .

Adidas has one of the world's largest historical archives for a sporting goods manufacturer. The brand owes this to its founder Adolf " Adi" Dassler , who at the time asked the athletes to return their worn shoes after use. In this way, the products should be developed further and tailored to specific needs. Even today, many athletes return their models as thanks - for example after winning a title or trying to set a world record. The two photographers Christian Habermeier and Sebastian Jäger have been documenting this archive in detail for years and have now provided the image material for Taschen's new collector's work. On 644 pages you can leaf through the decades and pursue your sneaker passion.
