There is a newfound craze around all things legwear to be observed within the fashion world. For too long have black tights been the norm – it is time for a long-awaited switch-up. These new, alluring tights surely are high-impact and easily brighten up seasonal layered looks!

We love the bold take on hosiery. An accessory that is typically deemed more functional than stylish is now enjoying an image makeover. A seemingly insignificant addition, like a coloured pair of tights, quickly transforms a whole look. They are a secret weapon for everyone looking for a bit of spice in their Autumn/ Winter outfits. The vivid tights are worn by fashionistas all over the world, think stylist Lotta Volkova and influencer Camille Charriere. The fun trend can also be easily translated into stay at home outfits. Pair the tights with some fuzzy socks for a retro eighties look or wear them under a chunky knit jumper as a sweatpants surrogate for an elevated home office look.

The trend leaves a lot of room for styling choices, so play around with what is on offer. Digital printed, or coloured hosiery is heading towards seventies-inspired psychedelic effects. Experiment with fun hand-dyed tie-dye tights à la Celia Calderon or have fun with daringly printed tights, as seen at hosiery label Tytm8. Celia Calderon is a London-based designer and Central Saint Martins graduate, who hand makes one-of-a-kind tights, smoothly fusing high-end and urban style.

Newly founded British-Italian label Tytm8’s brand concept is as refreshing as its funky designs. The founders Sasha and Arianna took inspiration by their grandparents pictured on old film. These photos are printed on high-quality nylon tights. Tytm8's pieces look at their best paired with corsets, rows of pearls, and blazers. Tytm8 is a celebration of the cultural backgrounds of its creators Sasha and Arianna, a Brit girl living in Milan and an Italian living in London. The unconventional, yet contemporary signature mix of bold images, prints and song lyrics make it a brand to watch.

For anyone less confident with print, there are myriad of one-coloured tights on the market. We particularly love the gradient printed tights, effortlessly fusing from a lighter shade to a darker shade. They also nicely play into the ombré print trend we see everywhere.

For a more luxurious version of the trend head over to the big maisons de mode. High-fashion brands like Chanel, Fendi, Gucci, and Burberry all jumped on the trend and are selling lace tights embroidered with the brand’s signature logo. For a smaller budget, head over to Austrian brand Wolford. Despite their delicacy, these logo lace tights make a bold fashion statement. Pair them with a furry coat and knee-high boots for your next lockdown walk.

But do not worry, you can still stick to black tights and be fashion-forward at the same time. Fashion East protégé Nensi Dojaka designs beautifully ruched bow tights that are perfect for the festive season.

This trend is a perfect example of how one accessory can singlehandedly steal the spotlight. The new tights definitely brighten the mood of these grey December days. Be inspired by the myriad of textures and colours available.
