Please tell us about the moment you first met and how you bonded over fashion and style!
Marina Raphael: "I came across Alex’s Instagram a few years ago and immediately fell in love with her elevated and chic aesthetic. I then reached out to her to collaborate and we immediately bonded over our passion for fashion and creating pieces that are designed around all facets of a woman’s lifestyle. There was definitely a natural synergy between the two of us from the very beginning, and that is what made this collaboration so effortless and brilliant!"
How did you get to work and what was the challenging part about it?
Marina Raphael & Alex Rivière: "We both imagined a woman as modern as she is elegant, and wanted to create a bag worthy of her, using impeccable craftsmanship and contemporary design. As to women who are constantly on the go, we channeled our shared vision to create the perfect cosmopolitan companion. The most challenging part was to materialize our idea and design a bag that could enable you to do it all. Shifting our focus to smaller more compact silhouettes, we opted for an ergonomic shape that would carry all your essentials and more, whilst still maintaining a statement look that could be styled in a variety of ways. The ALEX bag is a sophisticated and chic ode to practicality, being a cross-section between a classic briefcase and an essential envelope bag, this design is considered so that it can be worn for every occasion."
The bag itself is a classic piece with a vintage twist as you chose the crocodile leather. Please tell us why!
Marina Raphael: "At Marina Raphael, we always seek new ways to reinvent our designs by fusing modernity into classic materials and methods. Similarly, for our collaboration with Alex Riviere, we did exactly that, by combining the classic briefcase shape with the finesse of crocodile embossed leather as a vintage twist! Opting for rich colorways of caramel and black and a simple angular gold buckle closure, we wanted to create a staple handbag that catches the eye with its minimalist appearance and can elevate any look at a moment’s notice."
The pandemic had quite an effect on the fashion industry but finally, people are dressing up and going out again. How do you think the ALEX bag fits in this new era?
People have re-examined and redefined the idea of luxury fashion. After all those radical changes that we experienced, our clients sought out new ways to celebrate their return to their normal daily routines seeking high quality and timeless designs more than ever before. It also quickly became evident that people’s newfound tendency of carrying less, started to gain more and more traction, raising a high demand for all-day mini bags.
