Idris & Sabrina Elba, Louboutin present: "Walk a Mile in my Shoes" Charity-Collection

Idris Elba his wife, Sabrina, and Christian Louboutin have created a capsule collection to support five non-profit organizations around the world in the fight against racism.

A friendship between Idris Elba his wife, Sabrina Elba, and Christian Louboutin has lead to the creation of a capsule collection stemming from the minds of the Elba’s and the hands of Louboutin to support five non-profit organizations around the world.

The global outcry that occurred in May 2020 sparked a worldwide conversation about privilege, systematic injustice and racism. Idris and Sabrina felt compelled to add their voices, and as a visible Black couple they spoke candidly about global inequality and shared their first-hand experiences of discrimination. It was this outcry that lead Louboutin to join forces with the Elbas following their Instagram live discussion with one of the co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement, Opal Tometi that he Louboutin had listened to. “I’m proud of you, and I’m here for you” the master shoemaker told the Elbas.

Taking the thought-provoking conversation offline, the three friends were certain that they wanted to give back in a way that would be truly impactful. To raise awareness directly benefitting the lives of the individuals and communities whose voices matter yet are often unheard.

In order to do so, they looked to historic leaders Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela. Their dedication to the fight for justice, equality and freedom offered them the design inspiration they needed.

Thereby, the first part of the collection has been inspired and showcases Strelitzia reginae “Mandela’s Gold”- a beautiful plant that has come to symbolise empathy, hope and freedom. The second part of the collection incorporates the print nd embroidery of a sentence seen on Martin Luther King’s Memorial in LA « WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES » on a selection of Louboutin’s iconic styles to symbolize SOLIDARITY AND EMPATHY. The sentence is a call to action to support the victims of police brutality and racial injustice in the United States, small farmers and their children in Somalia, disconnected underserved youth in England and orphaned children and young girls in Sierra Leone.

A hundred percent of the proceeds from the Walk a Mile in My Shoes collection will be directed to administrative partner, GlobalGiving, for distribution to all five charities benefiting from this campaign under the name Walk a Mile in My Shoes Fund backed by Christian Louboutin and Sabrina & Idris Elba.

The five charities chosen by the Elbas and Louboutin are: IMMEDIATE THEATRE in London, the BE ROSE INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION in the USA, PURPOSEFUL in Sierra Leone, SOMALI HOPE FOUNDATION, GATHERING FOR JUSTICE in the USA.

The three friends hope to help to steer a strong course towards a global message of equality and, as Christian Louboutin notes: “A true sense of responsibility”.
